    Health & Safety Initiatives

I have been asked to gather industry benchmarking information by researching - identify initiatives and programs used by other organisations. Within the Technical services industry if possible or within a similar to business that address health and safety management. Looking at electrical safety, manual handling, field maintenance, warehousing, etc.

Where can I get this information from? Looking for initiatives that other companies are doing that we can look into implementing at the company I work in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Belindac,

You could also try looking up large companies and contractors, some of these tend to publish part or all on the web. May require a little digging sometimes. Sometimes a straight request to a manager or company OHS manager can be fruitful.

Bench marks can be anything you think of, the information you want is usually information that companies don't share. You can set your own bench marks, things like manual handling injuries, say you have 6 a year set a bench mark of 2 a year, 2 being your bench mark. Don't set them to high you may never achieve them. They are a bit like positive performance indicators.
You shouldn't really compare your company to other as no two places are the same.

You could try joing a Safety Group in your area as they usually represent a variety of Industries. In Dandenong / Frankston you have the Southern Safety Group ( Gary Thexton <gary.thexton@bigpond.com>)
Also get on to the WorkCover NSW web site or call them as they were, up until recently, structured around Industry specific Teams. Remember Safety is about hazard and risk so most recognised controls are applicable no matter what the Industry and should be discussed in consulation.
