Julia Gillard comes a cropper on health and safety laws
An interesting opinion piece by Judith Sloan, The Australian.
...a present glaring example of a despot stripped bare is the federal government's promise to implement harmonised occupational health and safety laws. In fact, this issue was seen by the newly installed Prime Minister Julia Gillard as sufficiently important to mention in her press conference.
"My record includes big changes such as the introduction of uniform occupational health and safety laws across the nation, a change policy-makers have been pursuing for a generation and which will create billions of dollars in benefits for Australian firms."
But, just like Maxwell Smart, she spoke too soon. And, by the way, claiming billions of dollars in benefits was a clear case of overegging the pudding.
